MID DECEMBER
One horned rhinoceros and the river dolphins of Assam are listed as seriously endangered mammals. Kaziranga and Manas Parks are where they are concentrated. Stay in super lodges in the parks; go looking for the hundreds of Himalayan birds like the Bengal Florican, with the added luxury of a river cruise.
If big cats are your interest, tag on a visit to a tiger reserve - Bandhavgar and Khanha.

Weekends with Quickshaws . . .

Over the next few weeks, we plan a few weekend trips out of town – and, as ever, we have tried to combine visits to places of interest, less well-known, or not easily accessible to the casual visitor.
We give below a selection of some of them – please contact Lashika or Niroshi for further information. Quickshaws will arrange for transport, your accommodation and meals, with guides as appropriate.
Tour: Anuradhapura (3 Day)
18th - 20th July
For the long weekend, we offer a two night stay in Anuradhapura, which we shall use as a base to visit Tanthirimale, as well as some of the outer sites and monasteries in Anuradhapura, Hasthikuchchi, and a unique Dry Zone arboretum just outside Dambulla.
Tour: Down South (1 Day)
26th July
For a day excursion, we thought we might drive through the wetlands of Panape, see the ramparts of a mediaeval fortress – palace, head to the coast for an early 20th century ‘palace’ near Kalutara, and top it off with visits to Brief, home of Geoffrey Bawa’s older brother, Bevis.

On your way, visit Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple in Ramboda. Following day visit Muthiyangana Raja Maha Vihara and view Dunhinda Waterfall.
Colombo; Old & New (1 Day)
23rd August
Visit Mutwal, Kelaniya, Pettah, churches and shrines, private art gallery, museums….etc.
Tour to Sinharaja (2 Day)

Trek out on jungle pathways, with our knowledgeable guide to tell us about the birds, the trees, the spiders, many unique to this region alone.
